Jeff Hammond is currently the CEO of BoatTEST.com, which is a 24-year-old company dedicated to educating boat owners about boats, boat buying, boating activities of all kinds, and boating safety. Currently, about 1.4 million users come to his website each year.
As a Public Service and educational program, he is the only media in the country that publishes the USCG’s weekly HQS-SMB-BADS Report of boating accidents. BoatTEST.com publishes its verified version of this report, complete with pictures that his staff researches, under the title “Accidents of the Week.”
Jeff also owns a small boat club in southern Florida that that requires that each new member take a boating educational course administered by Safer Boater, a national organization with over 400 affiliated USCG-licensed captains, 54% of whom are ex-military. Jeff pays the organization for each individual course administered, a requirement for membership.
Previously, Jeff had a 19-year career in the boating magazine publication field. Among other job functions he was the offshore sailboat racing editor of Yachting magazine, the editor of Motor Boating & Sailing magazine, the publisher of Boating magazine, and the CEO of Power and Motoryacht magazine. All of these magazines had as one of their missions to teach boating safety, and over the years published hundreds of articles on all aspects of safety.
For three years while working for Hearst Publications, he oversaw the publishing of Chapman’s Piloting, Seamanship and Small Boat Handling.
Hammond has been a life-long boater, owning both sailboats and powerboats, ranging in size from 17’ to 55’.
Early in his career, he wrote the Official Memoria of the 1968 Olympic Games, Ocean Racing Around the World, and Showdown at Newport, a history of the 12-Meter America’s Cup racing.
